Born in 1952 on the day my father was killed in Korea, I was lucky enough to get another father when my mother remarried when I was three and then gave me two sisters and a brother, too. The orphan in me was relatively overwhelmed by the grateful son, but stil lives on and looks for peace in solitary moments at the writing desk and on paths in woods and mountains. I teach at the university, write long articles and books mainly read by a few people who think about the same things I do, play folk music for whoever will listen and whoever will join in, watch birds and go for long walks as much as possible. My work focuses on literature, language, and culture. I consider myself a seeker in matters of the spirit. Once a political activist and avid practitioner of team sports and karate, I have retired from all these pursuits out of alienation and boredom (politics) and a bad back (sports and martial arts). Now I am consider myself lucky to spend a relatively quiet, largely contemplative life at home in the Brazos Valley of Texas. Once I was contemplating a native-sounding pen name with a friend of mine and looked up to see a flock of snow geese going south. I saw a dark-colored flyer at the front of the V and said "Jimmie Bluegoose" without thinking much. That's how I got the name for my live journal.
